"One of the country's best fly tyers and fishermen."
- C.B.C. Radio, Morningside

Ian James began fly tying and fly fishing in 1966 when he was six years old on the River Clyde in Scotland. He moved to Canada in 1979 to study agriculture at the University of Guelph.

Since then he has become one of Canada's leading fly casting instructors, fly fishing guides and professional fly tyers producing 20,000 flies per year.

He is a certified instructor with the Scottish Casting Association, and was the recipient of an Ontario Craft Council award for Creativity & Design in 1991. In 1995 he was part of the Canadian team at the World Fly Fishing Championships in Ireland and has judged the Canadian fly Tying Championships.

Ian's flies, illustrations and photographs have appeared in publications on both sides of the Atlantic. His framed flies, glass domes and brooch pins are considered to be some of the finest examples of creative and artistic fly tying in North America.

He is best known for being the resident fly fishing expert on the C.B.C. Radio show 'Morningside'.
